WELCOME BACK !!!

Welcome to the 2014- 2015 school year!!!

We are excited to be back and are looking forward to a great year.

We have a lot of great things planned for this year so lets get started.

A major focus over the next several weeks will be for all students to become FLUENT with their Multiplication facts.  To help emphasize the importance of this fluency this year and for the rest of the students lives, we are including this Khan Academy Video.

Please feel free to look back at some of the videos and items from last year as well.  There will be some discrepancy between this year's curriculum and last year's as the state standards have changed.

CONGRATULATIONS 5TH GRADE YOU DID IT!!!!!!!!!!

On the first day of classes, I challenged the students to get 90% or more passing the  STAAR Math test this year.  I told them if they did, I would shave my head.  5th graders, you did a great job!!

92% passing with 37% scoring Level III Advanced!

I guess it is time to pay up.  Here you go.

Today we will begin studying Median, Mode and Range.  You will notice that the video below also covers finding Mean.  Finding Mean is NOT developmentally appropriate for 5th grade at this time and we will not be studying that concept.  In order to avoid confusion and frustration at this time, please skip to the 1 minute 41 second mark and watch from there.  We will however be studying finding the range of a set of data which is not covered in this video.

Line Graphs - Finding Change Over Time

Today we will begin looking at and working with different types of graphs.  The first type we will look at is a line graph.  The main idea I want you to remember for now is that line graphs show changes in data over time.  Of course there is more to line graphs than that, but that is what I want you to focus on as we begin.
